Job Title: Kitchen Porter
Reports To: Head Chef / Sous Chef

We are looking for a dedicated and hardworking individual to join our kitchen team and contribute to our continued success.
Job Summary: The Kitchen Porter plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness, hygiene, and efficiency of the hotel kitchen. This position supports the culinary team by ensuring all equipment, crockery, and utensils are spotless, and that the kitchen environment adheres to the highest standards of food safety. The ideal candidate will be reliable, meticulous, and possess a strong work ethic, contributing positively to a busy and dynamic kitchen operation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dishwashing and Cleaning:
- Operate and maintain the dishwashing machine, ensuring all crockery, cutlery, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils are thoroughly cleaned, dried, and properly stored.
- Manual washing of oversized or delicate items as required.
- Regularly clean and sanitise all kitchen surfaces, including worktops, floors, walls, and storage areas, in accordance with hygiene regulations.
- Empty and clean bins regularly, ensuring proper waste disposal and recycling.
- Kitchen Support:
- Assist chefs with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, and chopping vegetables, as directed.
- Receive and store deliveries, ensuring proper rotation and organisation of stock.
- Keep dry stores and refrigeration areas clean and organised.
- Transport food and equipment within the kitchen and to other areas of the hotel as needed.
- Health & Safety:
- Adhere strictly to all Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).
- Report any equipment malfunctions or hazards immediately to a supervisor.
- Maintain a safe and tidy working environment at all times.
- Teamwork and Communication:
- Work effectively as part of a team, supporting colleagues as required.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with all kitchen and hotel staff.
- Be proactive in identifying and addressing cleaning or support needs.
- Other Duties:
- Perform any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head Chef, Sous Chef, or hotel management.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Essential:
- Basic understanding of hygiene and food safety principles (training will be provided).
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
- Desirable:
- Previous experience in a kitchen or hospitality environment.
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 1 or 2).
Working Conditions:
- This role involves working in a hot and potentially noisy environment.
- The position requires standing for long periods and some heavy lifting.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, is essential.
